Richard Rosenthal

Richard Rosenthal, MD

Dr. Rosenthal is a professor of psychiatry and co-director of the UCLA Gambling Studies Program. He co-authored the diagnostic criteria for gambling disorder, and has written about its phenomenology, course, complications, and treatment. The National Council awarded him their three highest honors, for lifetime achievement in research, advocacy, and treatment.

Throughout his career he has been curious about seemingly senseless, self-destructive behaviors and why people engage in them. He recently published From Self-Deception to Self-Forgiveness: Gambling Disorder, A Guide to Recovery, in which he synthesizes his forty plus year’s experience listening and treating gamblers.
