Joseph Pacheco, PhD

Joseph A. Pacheco, PhD, MPH, Assistant Professor in Lehigh University’s College of Health and Director of the Institute for Indigenous Studies. As an Indigenous researcher, his work addresses commercial tobacco use and gambling addiction in American Indian communities through culturally grounded, community-driven approaches that honor tribal sovereignty. He leads Betting on Traditions, Winning Against Addictions, a National Council on Problem Gambling–funded project using Community Advisory Board guidance to co-create data and materials integrating traditional healing. With a decade of experience managing multi-site NIH-funded trials, his work advances culturally grounded interventions and strengthens community-led approaches to addiction.
