What Can Youth Teach Us About Their Gambling?

Different data sources shed light on youth gambling behaviors and perspectives. This presentation synthesizes statewide recent survey data from the Oregon Student Health Survey with qualitative findings from youth and parent/caregiver focus groups conducted across Oregon. Quantitative trends in gambling participation and risk factors are paired with youth perspectives on motivation, social influences, and emerging gambling-like behaviors. Prevention implications emphasize evidence-informed strategies tailored to local communities, including education for youth and parents/caregivers, early identification, and youth-centered intervention approaches.
