The Use of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing for the Treatment of Gambling Disorders

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a long-standing evidence-based treatment for individuals with a trauma history. What is not widely known is it’s use for other Mental Disorders as well as Addictions, specifically Behavioral Addictions. Using the DeTUR Protocol developed by A.J. Popsky, participants will be shown how EMDR can be used for trigger management and urge reduction rather than traditional trauma reprocessing. Participants do not need to be trained in EMDR to learn valuable skills to bring back to their practice, including assessment of Triggers, Identifying Maladaptive Positive Affect, and Avoidance; all related to Gambling Disorder.
