This presentation will show portions of a full-length film, “Surrender” which follows Naomi, a young Asian-American woman whose life is disrupted by her secret gambling addiction. As she navigates her struggles, Naomi confronts feelings of denial and shame, which affect her relationships with family, colleagues, and herself. Panel discussion with the filmmaker will focus on how the use of stories and cinema can be used in problem gambling prevention, education, treatment and advocacy. This film will become available for streaming in 2026 offering the gambling field an innovative, dramatic and powerful resource to make impact with interested and invested stakeholders.
