In recent years, online gambling has gained significant popularity, driven by legalization and technological advancements. With this shift, concerns have emerged about the unique risks posed by online gambling compared to ‘offline’ forms. While much of the existing literature suggests that online gambling may carry heightened risks, a growing body of research advocates for a more nuanced perspective. Instead of categorizing gamblers as strictly ‘online’ or ‘offline,’ many studies recognize the presence of ‘mixed-mode’ gamblers—individuals who engage in both online and offline gambling. We will explore the characteristics of each type of gambler, including demographics, behaviors, problems, and other factors.
