Michelle Malkin, JD, PhD

Dr. Michelle L. Malkin is an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice and Criminology and the Director of the Gambling Research and Policy Initiative at East Carolina University. Her research includes a focus on gambling behavior, gambling-related harms & gambling-motivated crime. Her research on the Problem Gambling, General Strain Theory and Gender received the 2022 Dr. Durand Jacobs Dissertation Award from NCPG. She is currently conducting several studies relevant to further understanding of gambling and gambling-related harms including research on college-students and LGBTQ+ individuals. She is also researching the national landscape of self-exclusion and the establishment of Gambling Treatment Diversion Courts.
