Evidence-Based Techniques in the Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment of Problem Gambling

Cognitive behavioral techniques (CBT) are efficacious in the treatment of problem gambling. Yet it can be hard to know exactly what the implementation of empirically supported treatments looks like, as specific details about what, when, and how are often limited or buried within academic articles or supplemental materials. This workshop will provide straightforward guidance on the application of cognitive-behavioral change techniques represented within clinical trials of CBT. Structured practice in the delivery of these techniques will be supported through participatory role play exercises, and a framework for the flexible provision of CBT to clients experiencing gambling related harms will be outlined.

Learning Objectives

  • Develop case conceptualizations and plan motivationally enhanced cognitive-behavioral treatment for individuals experiencing gambling-related harm.
