Not a One and Done: Developing a Competent Gambling Disorder Workforce

While the Reno Model outlined a set of science-based strategic principles/guidelines for developing/implementing/maintaining responsible gambling activities (Ladouceur et al., 2016), limited knowledge exists providing guidance regarding best practices for creating sustainable quality disordered gambling treatment and community wellness initiatives. Often, “one-and-done” efforts to deliver treatment, a lack of persons with lived experiences, and guidance regarding how to address social, political, and cultural determinants of problem gambling exists. (Saunders & Doyle, 2021). Attendees will reflect, assess, and consider recommendations for strengthening sustainable disordered gambling/SUD/mental health infrastructures.

Learning Objectives

  • Discuss components of a planned strategy for developing a competent workforce to treat disordered gambling.
  • Highlight the importance of developing a peer workforce in treatment and prevention, using personal reflections.
